About us

_____(_(_____The_Maison_Universitaire_France-Japon_(____)__)____)_____)__)

The Maison Universitaire France-Japon (MUFJ) is a service that belongs to the University of Strasbourg. It aims to promote and foster academic exchanges between France and Japan.  This service was founded in 2001 on the initiative of the four Alsatian universities, thanks to an allocation under the StateRegion plan contract. Its creation relies on old and close connections between Alsace and Japan, at academic and economic levels. The MUFJ aims to reinforce cooperation in terms of education and research between universities, French research organizations and their Japanese equivalents.  Since 2001, the MUFJ works in close collaboration with the French link office of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), which is located inside the MUFJ building.

The MUFJ is located on the edge of the Esplanade campus in Strasbourg.
It has a twenty-seat seminar and conferences room at your disposal, as well as a meeting room and a documentary consultation area. This area is made of informative documents on Japanese academic institutions and research organizations.  A library made of about 1000 books and newspapers in French and Japanese is available for anyone interested in French -Japanese exchanges.

Our missions

The MUFJ has multiple activities that consist in:

  • The organization, with our partners, of seminars and colloquia in order to strengthen science-related connections between France and Japan.
  • The diffusion of information to facilitate students’, teachers’ and researchers’ mobility between France and Japan
  • The promotion of French-Japanese academic collaboration initiatives, in partnership with the International Relations Department and the Research and Valorization Department.
  • The reception of Japanese delegations and the facilitation of establishing contact with their academic, scientific or other partners of the University of Strasbourg.
